1812 Along with the Bank of Madras and the Bank of Bombay, the Bank of Bengal is one of the three Presidency Bank operating within the country. While it started as the Bank of Calcutta, the Bank of Bengal was officially renamed on June 2, 1809 when it received its first Royal Charter incorporating it as theBank of Bengal. Today, it issued the first confirmed banknote, which was of 250 Sicca Rupees. These nnotes pay an interest of 10-12 percent a year, and are expected to be profitable investment. The notes will be printed by Perkins, Heath & co. in England.
